Hand-Carved Orkney Boreray Horn Raven Pendant

I carve each of these raven pendants individually by hand from the horn of Boreray sheep here in Orkney.

The natural curve of the horn is used to form the shape of the raven's head and beak, with the details carved directly into the surface by hand. The pendant is finished with a twisted brass hanging ring, contrasting with the natural horn.

Boreray are a small, primitive breed of sheep originating from the St Kilda archipelago in Scotland. Their horn is a natural material with considerable variation in colour, markings, curvature and translucency.

As each pendant is made from natural horn and carved individually, the exact dimensions will vary slightly.

Natural Boreray Horn

No two pieces of horn are identical. Colour and markings can vary considerably between pendants, and thinner areas of the horn can become translucent when held up to the light.

These natural differences are part of the material rather than imperfections, meaning every finished raven will have its own appearance.

Care

Horn is a natural material and should be kept away from prolonged soaking, excessive heat and strong direct sunlight. It can be cleaned gently with a soft cloth when required.

A hole is drilled through the pendant and fitted with a twisted brass hanging ring so it can be worn on your own chain or cord.
